Similar to the pill, the continuous release of this progestogen prevents ovulation. It is placed under the skin on the inside of the upper arm and is fitted within the first five days of your menstrual cycle. It is inserted under local anaesthetic using a special applicator. During the first 7 days after fitting, an additional method of contraception (e.g. a condom) should be used during intercourse.
